THE temple was breathtakingly beautiful and stylish .the pujari told me that it was built by queen vishnupriya ( lalita) who was the paternal grandmother of sri krishna chandra gajapati almost 2oo yrs ago with the money given from her parental side (pasupu kunkalu)at the time of her marriage_. the architects came from mathura.The entrance to the courtyard of the temple is deceptively simple but upon entering ,the 3 part edifice is a sight to behold.it is built on a raised platform with the deity in the last temple.the coutyard is vast and surrounded by pillars which are being renovated.around the deity there are flower shaped pillars and the walls of the temple proper are full of intricately carved sculptures ,some of them erotic . The domes and walls are also rich in floral motifs.It was heartening to see that pujas are still going on and people do come from far off places like vizag.(like us )Even though it belongs to the royal family of parlakimidi and govt support is not there , the erstwhile Raja still attends important pujas . WE Sincerely felt that the 200 km drive was worth it ,even though it is closer to Parlakimidi.(we went via tekkali)
